I hate it when I am having a conversation with a customer or someone in the business world, even sometimes at a store and they start using “terms of endearment” like “Thanks, sweetie”, or “listen, sweetheart”. May be I am overreacting, but I think it is unprofessional and condescending. I never know what to say back to them to politely, but firmly let them know that I am not their sweetie and I don’t appreciate their use of the word.
The worst is when some 18 year old waitress at TGI Fridays calls everyone at the table sweetie. (I am a 32yo F)
ONLY 60 YEAR OLD WAITRESSES IN DINERS SPORTING A BEEHIVE, NAMED FLO ARE ALLOWED TO CALL ME SWEETIE, oh, and my Grandma too. THAT’S IT!!!!
